MMU vs Taylor’s University: Courses, Fees and How to Choose

The useful question is which course and offer fit your goals. Compare the exact degree, campus, entry route and total cost before choosing between MMU and Taylor’s.

The quick answer

Both are covered by One-Step. Use a matched programme comparison and current international fee schedules. The computing examples below retain their original currencies and fee labels; they are not an exchange-rate-adjusted price comparison.

Computing fees: a sourced starting point

Published international computing examples: different currencies and inclusions
Institution and coursePublished figureSource and limits
MMU: Bachelor of Computer Science (Honours), Software EngineeringTotal programme fee RM77,250; estimated yearly programme fee RM25,750; 3 yearsMMU international fee schedule, December 2025 (PDF). December 2025 printing; confirm your intake and separate charges.
Taylor’s: Bachelor of Computer Science (Honours)USD40,049 international; 3 yearsTaylor’s Computer Science programme and 2026 fees. Programme information for 2026; fees reviewed annually.

Taylor’s page states that its fee schedule excludes 6% service tax for non-Malaysians on applicable charges, with exceptions for the international security deposit and EMGS application fees. Ask for the final invoice rather than applying tax indiscriminately to every item.

MMU’s programme-fee figure should not be treated as the complete cost of attendance. Its schedule also contains a payment structure and other charges. Ask the admissions office for an itemised total and payment dates. Neither example includes a personalised housing budget.

Compare what you will actually study

Make a module-by-module sheet for the two courses. For computing, look for programming, mathematics, algorithms, databases, systems, security and substantial assessed projects. The programme title alone does not reveal how much time you will spend in each area.

Taylor’s 2026 page lists Data Science, Cyber Security, Mobile Computing and Artificial Intelligence specialisations, and describes conventional, work-based learning and technopreneurship routes. Confirm availability and eligibility with the school. For your MMU offer, request the current programme handbook rather than assuming similarly named specialisations have identical modules.

  • Ask to see the final-year project brief and recent examples of assessed student work.
  • Confirm the internship duration, how placements are found and what support is available.
  • Check whether optional pathways change fees, location, duration or visa arrangements.
  • For credit transfer, obtain written exemptions and the remaining fee schedule before comparing totals.

Add the campus and living-cost decision

Get room quotes near the actual teaching location. Compare a realistic commute at class times, what utilities cost and whether the room contract continues during holidays. A course can fit your tuition budget but still create an uncomfortable monthly cash shortfall.

Plan the cash needed before classes: acceptance payment, visa-related charges, flights, housing deposit and initial living money. Keep deposits separate from ongoing expenses, and check when any scholarship is credited.

Use a simple decision sheet

Your comparison sheet: fill with evidence from both offers
CriterionEvidence worth keeping
Academic fitModule list, assessment style and specialisation availability.
AffordabilityComplete invoice, living budget and payment calendar.
EligibilityWritten academic and English assessment, including any conditions.
Study experienceCampus visit or virtual tour, facilities relevant to your course and student support.
Outcome planningProject opportunities, internship arrangements and any professional recognition required.

Give your most important criterion the greatest weight. If affordability is a firm limit, do not let a broad university ranking override an unfunded budget. If a specific module or professional route is essential, verify that first rather than choosing by an unrelated reputation claim.

Questions students ask

Is Taylor’s always better because of an overall ranking?

An overall ranking does not establish which individual course, teaching arrangement or offer best fits you. Compare course-level evidence and your budget.

Can I subtract the two published fees to calculate my saving?

Not directly here. The figures use different currencies and may include different charges. Request comparable itemised invoices, then convert using a dated exchange rate if needed.

Sources and review notes

Official sources checked on 21 September 2026. Stored university fee schedules can have different validity dates; confirm the document edition and your intake. Figures labelled illustrative are One-Step planning examples.

Campus photographs are reused from One-Step’s existing university galleries and are illustrative of the named location. They do not establish room availability, an award or immigration approval.
